Lesley Ann Hyde and the Southern Ghost Girls are bringing history back to life—one haunted building at a time. What began as Hyde’s personal passion for the paranormal has become a mission to preserve the South’s historic landmarks through ghost tours that blend spiritual investigation with local storytelling.

Hyde and her team of “empaths” lead curious guests through sites like Birmingham’s Arlington Historic House, where 19th-century creaking floors and dim lighting set the tone for a supernatural night. Armed with ghost-hunting gear like dowsing rods and spirit boxes, guests search for signs of the afterlife—and sometimes, they find more than they bargained for.

But even skeptics find value in these tours. Each event helps raise money to restore and maintain historic venues, some of which are over a century old. Since their first event at Arlington in 2018, the Southern Ghost Girls have helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for preservation projects across the South.

Whether you believe in spirits or not, one thing is clear: these ghost tours are keeping history alive.
